Monin Anise Syrup
Anise is an annual herb native of the Mediterranean region, identified by its distinctive, sweet licorice-like flavor. It is one of the oldest known spices used for its aromatic, medicinal and mystical qualities. In ancient times, anise was used to prevent nightmares and ward off the evil eye. All over the world flavor of anise is enjoyed in food and candies. Anise is a fragrant component of the French anisette liqueur but it is also delicious in coffees and teas.

Anise is sweet and very aromatic, distinguished by its licorice-like flavor. The seeds, whole or ground, are used in a wide variety of regional and ethnic confectioneries, including the black jelly bean, British aniseed balls, Australian humbugs, New Zealand aniseed wheels, Italian pizzelle, German Pfeffernusse and Springerle, Austrian Anisebögen, Netherland muisjes, Norwegian knotts, New Mexican Bizcochitos, and Peruvian picarones.
