History of Quality :

French Roots

Georges MONIN® founded the MONIN® Company in Bourges, France, in the year 1912. The forefather of the MONIN® brand distributed premium fruit cordials and wines to bar, restaurant and gourmet retail markets across France, promptly establishing the MONIN® Company as a leader in quality. In fact, Georges MONIN®’s motto La Passion de la Qualité (“Passion for Quality”) became the MONIN® slogan, a slogan that is still driving the company today.

Global Expansion Timeline

1912 to present - MONIN® has grown to be the leading producer of gourmet flavorings used in restaurants, coffeehouses, bars and homes in over 100 countries.

1930s - Georges MONIN® started exporting to other European countries and the Caribbean.

1945 - Paul MONIN®, son of George MONIN®, became the president of the MONIN® company and initiated further national distribution as well as exportation.

1992 - Paul MONIN® transferred the company to his son and George MONIN®'s grandson, Olivier. Current President of the MONIN® company, Olivier MONIN® expanded the global distribution of MONIN® products into the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and beyond.

1993 - The MONIN® USA office was opened to support the distribution of MONIN® products in the Americas.

1996 - the MONIN® USA manufacturing plant was built in Clearwater, FL.

January 2005 - the MONIN® Asia branch office opened in Singapore to handle Asia and Oceania. Also, MONIN® France opened the Studio, a state-of-the-art product and application development facility where new drink recipes are developed and tested prior to being launched.

Early 2006 - MONIN® USA inaugurated the Flavor Café, contiguous to the MONIN® Clearwater plant. Just like the Studio in France, the Flavor Café is an ideal venue for meetings and development of new MONIN® products and beverages.

Late 2006 - MONIN® acquired Guiot Flavorings, a high-end syrup flavor developer, producer and distributor founded in France in 1871. Guiot’s quality production processes perfectly complement MONIN®’s. Guiot produces branded and private label products for large retail outlets and the foodservice industry, which will strengthen MONIN®’s world-class leadership in meeting the growing consumer demand for quality flavors.

Early 2007 - MONIN® USA completed the expansion of the U.S. production facility that now boasts three fully automated production lines.

June 2007- MONIN® MEI opened in Dubai, UAE, and is in charge of the Middle East, India and Mediterranean countries.

July 2008 - MONIN® USA opened a new Flavor Cafe in Dallas, TX. Like its sister cafes around the world, the MONIN® Flavor Cafe in Dallas is an in-house, full-service commercial bar, coffeehouse and hi-tech conference center designed to simulate every stage of beverage development and to serve MONIN® USA clientele.

August 2008 - MONIN® South opens its truck docking stations. MONIN® USA built a 50,000 square foot, off-site distribution center, dubbed "MONIN® South", to better serve their vast distributor network. Located in Largo, FL, MONIN® South is just six miles down the road from the Clearwater, FL manufacturing plant - MONIN® USA Headquarters.

Looking to the Future

As millions of bottles are shipped to all parts of the world, MONIN® still upholds its long-standing tradition of quality. Attention to detail, partnering with customers, anticipating consumer trends, and La Passion de la Qualité are the pillars on which the MONIN® Company is building continued leadership in the flavoring industry for generations to come.

ALL About Coffee

What Is Coffee and Where's It Come From?

  • "Coffee" comes from the Latin form of the genus Coffea, a member of the Rubiaceae family that includes more than 500 genera and 6,000 species of tropical trees and shrubs.
  • Coffee beans are not beans, but the pits of a fruit that resemble cherries.
  • Approximately 2,000 berries are needed to make one pound of coffee.
  • There are about 25 major species within coffee, but the typical coffee drinker is likely to be familiar with two; Arabica and Robusta. Arabica represents approximately 70 percent of the world's coffee production.
  • An Arabica coffee plant takes about five years to mature and produce its first crop.
  • Coffee cherries start as green in early stage of growth, turn yellow, red, then dark crimson when they are finally ripe.
  • Coffee plants bloom with white blossoms, with a sweet jasmine scent.
  • Species of coffee trees can grow as tall as 32 feet with leaves ranging in color from purple to yellow. The green coffee leaf is the predominant color.
  • Coffee beans are roasted at 400°F.
  • When roasted, a coffee bean doubles in size, and the carmelization of the sugar turns its color from green to brown.
  • The longer a coffee is roasted, the more caffeine burns off during the process, therefore dark roasted coffees actually have less caffeine than medium roasts.
  • Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. to produce coffee.
  • Coffee is the second most valuable traded commodity, second only to oil.

There's More!

  • We're not the only ones who enjoy great tasting coffee. Coffee has existed as a beverage for 11 centuries.
  • Coffee is the most popular beverage worldwide with over 400 billion cups consumed each year.
  • It is estimated that more than 100 million Americans drink a total of 350 million cups of coffee a day.
  • 52% of the American adult population (age 18+) drink some type of coffee beverage on a daily basis, averaging about 3.2 cups per day.
  • 79% percent of American coffee drinkers consume their coffee at home. The workplace is the second most prominent location where consumers drink coffee.
  • The number of cups of gourmet coffee beverages consumed per drinker per day is 2.5 cups.
  • 91% of coffee drinkers consume their coffee at breakfast.
  • And that's just the tip of the old coffee iceberg. There are hundreds of Buzz Words that the pros use in the industry every day.

Healthy Alternative to Sugar

The world’s leading provider of gourmet flavorings brings a new sweetening option to the beverage menu with MONIN® Agave Nectar. Made with organic agave nectar from Mexico, MONIN® Agave Nectar deliciously enhances cocktails, iced teas, lemonades, smoothies and specialty coffee beverages with a clean, fresh and subtle nutty taste.

MONIN® Agave Nectar is made with organic agave, a natural derivative from agave plants. Notable for a lower glycemic index than other sweeteners, agave nectar delivers a unique solution for Operators looking to provide healthier sweetening options on the beverage menu.

“Agave nectar itself is about 1.5 times sweeter than sugar, so you can use a smaller amount, which lessens calories and carbohydrates to achieve the same sweetness level as sugar,” explained Johanna Velez, Director of Quality Assurance and Product Development for MONIN®. “MONIN® Agave Nectar has a low glycemic index which makes it a great product for people that follow a diabetic diet. It is a great addition to our sweetener line with a caloric value between MONIN® Sugar Free Sweetener and MONIN® Pure Cane Syrup.”

Agave is traditionally used for producing tequila; thus, MONIN® Agave Nectar is deliciously perfect for making margaritas. Moreover, with its clean, refreshing taste and as a low-glycemic sugar alternative, MONIN® Agave Nectar is poised to become a favorite in sweetening beverages across the menu. Available in 1 Liter PET bottles packed 4 bottles per case.
